St. Patrick's day is this weekend.  For those who don't know, St. Patrick's Day began as a religious holiday honoring Ireland's patron saint, St. Patrick.  He died (around) March 17th, and that is why the holiday is celebrated on this date.  However, currently this holiday is celebrated more as a way to embrace the Irish culture and is less religious in nature amongst Americans.  Everyone feels a little bit Irish on St. Patrick's Day!

There are so many cute ideas of ways you can celebrate St. Patrick's Day in your house.  One fun tradition we have adopted here at our house is that the Leprechaun comes to visit while we are sleeping.  He does something different, but equally naughty, every year.  One year he baked us green cupcakes and made a huge mess with the green frosting.  Last year, he dyed the toilet water and a gallon of milk green and left green sugar sprinkles all over the kitchen.  This year the boys decided to make a trap to see if we can catch the little guy in action.  Our trap is extremely simple, we just used a small diaper box and drew on it things that we thought would lure a leprechaun including a rainbow, a pot of gold, and some shamrocks.  The boys had me write "Oh Leprechaun, it's your lucky day!" and "This is NOT a trap, come on in for your special treat!"  We'll see if we get him!  I saw so many cute trap ideas on pinterest and on the family fun website.

A quick search online comes up with a ton of printable coloring pages and templates for making your own leprechaun with your kids.  This shamrock tree is adorable and I just love this paper plate leprechaun.
