As New Englanders, we know too well how the cold, unpredictable winter weather and short, dark days can make it tough to stay active and eat well. Motivation tends to hibernate right along with us. But with warmer, sunnier days on the horizon, now is the perfect time to reset and recharge. Spring and summer bring fresh air, longer daylight, vibrant fruits and vegetables, and endless opportunities to move your body outdoors. It's the ideal season to re-energize your routine and embrace a healthier, more active lifestyle.

Movement can be simple! Just getting outside for a short walk can be one of the most effective ways to add movement to your day. As the days get longer and the temperatures rise, now is the perfect time to take advantage of the natural boost in energy that comes with sunlight. Start with a small achievable goal to get yourself into a movement based routines: a 15-minute walk around the neighborhood, stretching or following an online stretch routine in your yard, or trying a new bike path. These small efforts add up quickly and help create lasting habits that feel good, not forced. When it comes to movement, it is essential to find things that are fun for you so they stick in your life. Warmer weather brings on more options like hiking, water based sports, gardening, walking trails, exploring new places, etc. Making these activities enjoyable and low pressure or even looking at them as social events by having friends meet up with you allow for a routine to fall into place on its own!

Spring and summer bring an abundance of fresh, locally grown produce to our communities. Fruits and vegetables at the grocery stores begin to reach their prime ripeness and flavor. We also have access to Farmers Markets in the surrounding towns where you can find flavorful, locally grown foods that peak in the summer like strawberries, leafy greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, and more. Take this season to experiment with new fruits and vegetables. Start with your usual recipes that you are comfortable with but add a new component with each meal you make. Try grilling vegetables, mixing in a new fruit to your smoothie, or adding a variation of greens to your salad. There are endless options that can enhance your eating habits without requiring full overhaul.
Transitioning into more movement and healthier choices does not need to be overwhelming or daunting. Spring and summer are seasons of renewal and growth, and that applies to your wellness journey, too. Whether you're just beginning or getting back on track, every small step counts. Let spring and summer be your reminder that growth doesn't happen overnight, but with each sunny walk, fresh meal, and mindful moment, you're building a healthier, happier version of yourself—one warm day at a time.
