By Maria Almeida — Program Coordinator Greater Brockton Healthy Families
At Greater Brockton Healthy Families, we recognize that fathers play a vital role in a child's growth and development. A father's presence can influence everything from emotional stability and academic achievement to social development and long-term well-being. That's why our program is deeply committed to engaging and supporting fathers just as much as we support mothers, whether the parents are together or not.
Unfortunately, society often overlooks the importance of fathers. In many spaces, from schools to doctors' offices, there is a default to contact mothers first, unintentionally sidelining dads. This kind of practice can leave fathers feeling excluded or discouraged from being involved. Over time, these patterns can push fathers away, even when they want to be present and supportive.
We are here to change that narrative.
At Greater Brockton Healthy Families, we work hard to ensure that fathers are included in every part of the parenting journey. Our staff is specially trained in father engagement strategies; we know how to reach out to dads, build trust, and create space for them to be active participants in their child's life.
Even when fathers are not living in the home, we encourage and support their involvement. Parenting is a shared responsibility, and children thrive when both parents are given the opportunity to be present, connected, and supported.
By valuing and uplifting fathers, we're not just strengthening families—we're building stronger, more resilient communities.
